ANCASTER, ON: The Niagara Knights men's basketball team (6-8) kept the winning streak alive as they took the short trip to Ancaster to take on the Redeemer Royals (2-12). The Knights would pull off a strong 3rd quarter to outscore the Royals and finish with a 94-83 win.
A strong start to this game would be shadowed by Redeemer's effort late in the 1st quarter as they would out-score Niagara 23-19 in the 1st frame. The Knights would take the first 6 points of the 2nd quarter to briefly take the lead but still trailed by 1 at the end of the 1st half.
The 3rd quarter is where things really started to heat up as the Knights outscored their opponents 29-16 to take the 12-point lead into the final frame. A lead that the Knights would not be comfortable with but would ultimately be able to hold on to throughout the 4th quarter to secure the 11-point lead.
5 Knights players scored in the double-digits in this one, including 1st year guard Noah Li, who won this week's Athlete of the Week honors for his efforts in last week's games. In today's matchup, he scored 24 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. 1st year forward Difference Igbinehi tallied 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists. 2nd year guard Chris Spann and 1st year guard Joseph Buckley scored 16 points and 5 rebounds apiece while adding a combined 9 assists and 6 steals.
The Knights hope to carry the momentum from this game into their next, as they prepare to host the Canadore Panthers on Sunday, February 1st at the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre in Welland. This is a rescheduled game due to last Sunday's inclement weather, and tipoff is scheduled for 2:00pm.
