LONDON, ON: The Niagara Knights men's basketball team (3-5) fell to the Fanshawe Falcons (3-5) on Wednesday evening at Fanshawe with a final score of 76-67.
The Knights got off to a hot start, outscoring the Falcons 25-19 in the 1st quarter while forcing 5 turnovers and 7 fouls. The Knights cooled off significantly for the 2nd quarter and were outscored by the Falcons 18-9 as the Falcons took a 3-point lead into halftime.
The 3rd quarter was a very back-and-forth affair with the 1st basket of the quarter not being scored until 1 minute and 15 seconds into the frame. The Knights then went on a small run before the Falcons brought it back to within 3 to end the 3rd quarter.
The Knights' defense struggled in the 4th quarter with the Falcons taking the first 13 points of the quarter. The Knights answered with a small run of their own to get it back to within 3 points with 2 minutes left in the game, however the Falcons seemed to be able to find a new gear in the last minute and a half. They would score an additional 11 points to finish off the game with a 9-point lead.
1st year guard Joseph Buckley led the team in this game with 16 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals. 4th year wing Skylar Samuel also scored in double-digits, adding 14 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block. 2nd year guard Chris Spann added 13 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 5 steals of his own.
The Knights don't have much time to dwell on this loss as they head to North Bay to take on the Canadore Panthers on Saturday, November 29th. Tipoff is scheduled for 1pm at the Canadore Education Centre Gymnasium. You can catch this game on OCAA Live at OCAA.COM/LIVE.
