Knights Lose to Hawks, Even Up Their Season Record at 3-3

November 15, 2025

WELLAND, ONT: The Niagara College men's volleyball team (3-3) hosted the Humber Hawks (3-2) as the last match of an action packed ReuKnighted alumni day.  Unfortunately, the Knights couldn't send the fans home happy as they lost in straight sets to the Hawks (set scores were 23-25, 19-25 and 17-25).

As was the case with the women's game before them, Niagara began this match on their heels as Humber was able to take an early set lead.  A late surge in the set saw the Knights pull within a point but couldn't push the Hawks to extra points, taking the 2-point loss in set 1.  The 2nd was a tightly contested set as both teams traded points throughout, with Humber being able to go on a late run and pull away from Niagara.  The 3rd set had fans on their feet as the Knights were able to take the early lead, but it did not last very long.  Humber kept pushing throughout the set, able to build a controlling lead that they wouldn't give up – handing the Knights the 3-set sweep.  Jack Drummond led the Knights in points with 12 on 10 kills, also contributing 3 digs and 2 aces.  Sam Guzak followed close behind with 8 points of his own on 6 kills, 5 digs and 2 blocks.  Noah Trembly, the usual libero, got a chance to play as an outside hitter and added in 6 points on 4 kills with 3 digs and 2 blocks.

"The guys competed the whole game but dug themselves a hole by allowing Humber to go on multiple runs," said Steve Stone, head coach of the Niagara Knights.  Stone continued to say that "some better decision making and execution need to happen, especially in our serve receive – that can change things for us and give us a very different outcome."

The Knights will take the week to formulate a game plan as they get set to travel to Ancaster to take on the Redeemer Royals (3-3) with the match scheduled for Friday night at 8pm.  Be sure to tune into OCAA Live to catch all the action, if you're unable to make the drive to watch them live.
