Knights Earn First Win of Season

October 25, 2025

OAKVILLE, ONT: The Niagara College men's volleyball team (1-1) continued their regular season on the road, taking on the Sheridan Bruins (0-2) in an afternoon tilt Saturday.  Unlike their season opener, the Knights were able to come away with the victory in this matchup (set scores were 18-25, 30-28, 26-24 and 25-19).

The Knights came into this match determined to even up their regular season record, with assistant coach Jenn Kelly standing in as the head coach.  Stumbling out of the gate and dropping the opening set after building an early lead, the Knights were able to rally back in the second set.  A tightly contested set that saw both teams go on numerous runs, ultimately having the Knights score the last 2 points and bring the match to a 1-1 draw.  The third set saw the Knights take another early lead, which they held for most of the set, before the Bruins fought back to even up the set at 24-24.  The Knights were able to collect themselves and finish off the set over the next 2 points, taking a 2-1 set lead.  In the 4th set, the Knights were able to limit their errors and ride an early lead to a 6-point victory.  RJ Martin led the game with 21 points on 14 kills, 6 clocks, 2 digs, 1 assist and 1 ace.  Not far behind, Jack Drummond contributed 19 points of his own on 10 kills, adding in 6 blocks, 4 digs and 3 aces.  Sam Pynn, Riley Orr and Cam Moss all scored double-digit points to help the Knights earn the road win.

"The guys showed true relentlessness today on the road," said Jenn Kelly, head coach of the Niagara Knights for this matchup.  Kelly continued to say that "after a disappointing loss in the first set, they dug in and showed true grit to take the remaining sets to gain the win."

The Knights finally come back to the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre at the Welland Campus next weekend for their first home games of the 2025-2026 season.  They are set to take on the Boreal Vipers (0-2) on Saturday, November 1st at 6pm and the Cambrian Shield (3-0) on Sunday, November 2nd at 3pm.  If you can't attend to watch your Knights live in action, make sure you tune into OCAA Live so you don't miss a thing.
