Knights Endure Second Loss of Season

Knights Endure Second Loss of Season

November 8, 2025

WINDSOR, ONT: The Niagara College men's volleyball team (3-2) headed west to take on the St. Clair Saints (2-3) in a Saturday evening affair.  An early strong showing for the Knights, eventually led to a 3-1 loss (set scores were 25-21, 18-25, 12-25 and 15-25).

A tightly contested 1st set saw each team trading blows back-and-forth as play-after-play was being made.  The Knights were able to go on a small mid-set run to take the lead before the Saints made their late push – in the end, Niagara was able to string together some key plays and take the 1-0 set lead.  The 2nd set began much the same as the first but the Saints were able to build some early momentum and take the lead.  The Knights couldn't capitalize on some key chances and had too many errors, as St. Clair cruised to tie things up at 1 set apiece.  The 3rd set saw nothing going right for the Knights as the Saints were able to build a controlling lead and take the 13-point set win, putting Niagara onto their heels. A valiant effort by the Knights in the 4th came up short as the Saints were able to once again pull away, taking the 3-1 win.  Sam Guzak finished the game with 8 points on 5 kills, 6 digs and 3 aces.  Riley Orr followed closely behind with 5 points on 4 kills, 1 dig, 1 assist and 1 ace.  Taiten Stifter controlled the Knights' offence, providing 16 assists, 2 points on 1 kill, 2 digs and 3 aces.

"The boys showed up ready to play out of the gate but ran out of steam after set one," said Steve Stone, head coach of the Niagara Knights.  Stone continued to say that "it's tough losing Sam Pynn to injury during this game, as he's been one of our most consistent attackers this season.  Hopefully we can use this upcoming week as a reset and get back to work."

The Knights return home on Saturday, November 15th to take on the Humber Hawks (2-1) at 8pm, as we celebrate our ReuKnighted Alumni Event.  Come catch all the action at the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre at the Welland Campus or be sure to tune into OCAA Live so you don't miss a thing.
