Wednesday night saw the Niagara College women's volleyball program punch their ticket for the 2013-14 OCAA playoffs, as the Humber Hawks defeated the Mohawk Mountaineers moving the Knights into sole position of sixth place in the OCAA West Division.
After starting 2014 with a five game losing streak, a playoff appearance seemed unlikely for the Knights, but with their backs to the wall the team rebounded winning their final three matches to secure a playoff berth.
Niagara College women's volleyball head coach Joey Martins felt the defining moment this season for his program was mid-way through their February 2nd matchup versus the St. Clair Saints. "In their gym down two sets to none, we knew we weren't out of the match. We cleaned up our unforced errors, refocused, and battled back and won in five sets."
The Knights won their remaining two matches in convincing fashion, and after missing the playoffs last season, will compete in the 2013-14 OCAA post-season.
The Knights will now travel to Peterborough on Saturday, February 15th to take on the talented Trent University Excalibur.
Coach Martins continued "Trent University is ahead for us. We will be prepared, we are excited, we are ready to perform, and hopefully upset a top team in the province on Saturday."
The winner of Saturday's match will qualify for the 2014 OCAA Championship being hosted by Durham College from February 19-22.
