Knights Women’s Basketball Lose a Tough Contest in London

January 22, 2025
LONDON, ON: The Niagara College women's basketball team (10-2) travelled to
Fanshawe College on Wednesday afternoon for a match against the Falcons (7-5) at
the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre. The Knights went in as the top seed in the OCAA
West Division and were faced with a tough game and ultimately fell to the Falcons 58-
50.
The Knights struggled offensively throughout this game, especially in the first quarter.
Scoring only 5 points to Fanshawe's 11, and retrieving 9 rebounds to Fanshawe's 17,
the Knights found themselves trailing from the very start and were never able to build
enough momentum to gain that lead back.
The Knights were able to get within 3 points with just less than 5 minutes remaining in
the game, with the help of a 3-point shot quickly followed by a made layup from Aisja
Strachan, assisted by Janee Harrison on both attempts. A made layup by Eremwon
Destiny followed quickly by a steal and made layup by Strachan off the Falcons'
inbound, got the Knights to within 1 with just over 4 minutes. The last four minutes of
the game were not what coach Kimbal Mackenzie had drawn up for his team. A
combination of missed shots and too many fouls put Fanshawe at the free throw line
and grew their lead to the point of no-return for the Knights.
Aisja Strachan came off the bench for another strong game contributing 16 points, 2
rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block. 4 th year, and team captain, Jamira Rousseau looked like
she wanted to take the game into her own hands at certain times, and was able to
contribute 15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 1 block to the scoreboard.
The Knights have a quick turnaround as they return home to play the Conestoga
Condors on Friday, January 24 th at the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre. Tipoff is
scheduled for 6:00pm.
