ANCASTER, ON: The Niagara College women's basketball team made the short trip down the QEW for a Wednesday evening matchup against the Redeemer University Royals, coming out on top with a commanding 78-34 win. This win continues their 4-game winning streak and boosts them into first place in the OCAA west division standings.
The Knights scored the first basket of the game and never trailed, outscoring the Royals in each of the 4 quarters. The Knight's strongest quarter came in the 2nd, when they held the Royals to a mere 2 points and scored 22 points themselves.
Each player on the roster saw at least a few minutes on the floor in tonight's game, with 3 different players scoring in the double digits. 4th year Janee Harrison led the team with 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Not to be outdone by her teammate, 4th year Jamira Rousseau also tallied 15 points with 1 rebound, 2 assists, and 1 steal. A new addition to the team this year, but coming with OUA experience, Megan Louws shot 43% from the field and added 13 points of her own along with 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 3 steals.
The team will have a quick turnaround to prepare for their final game of the winter semester as they host the Fanshawe Falcons at the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons have jumped into 4th place in the OCAA west division standings and are hot off a 3-game win streak. The Knights will look to extend their 4-game winning streak to 5 games in what promises to be a great matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 1pm on Saturday, November 30th.
