Knights Women’s Basketball End the Fall Term with a Loss to Fanshawe

November 26, 2025

LONDON, ON: The Niagara Knights women's basketball team (2-6) fell 85-52 to the Fanshawe Falcons (5-2) in their final game of the fall term.  Three different Knights scored in the double digits in this contest but so did three of the Falcons and the Knights just could not keep up.

A very back-and-forth start to the 1st quarter saw the Knights hold the lead on multiple occasions, before Fanshawe went on an 8-point run to take a 7-point lead into the 2nd quarter.

The 2nd quarter was a much different affair, with the Falcons outscoring the Knights 27-8.  The Knights turned the ball over 5 times in the 2nd quarter alone and shot only 21.4% from the field.

What must have been a strong halftime peptalk from head coach Allie Columbus, reignited the fire in this team as they came out and won the 3rd quarter, however they could not carry the momentum forward to the 4th quarter as the deficit from the 2nd was just too large.

1st year forward Hanna Kirchner had her best game yet with 15 points, 1 rebound, and 2 assists in 32 minutes while shooting 71% from the field. 1st year guard Emma Vendittelli scored 12 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 block while 2nd year guard Alyah Pereira added 11 points, 1 rebound, and 4 assists of her own.

When asked about this game and the first half of the season for this young team, head coach Allie Columbus reflects "it's not ideal to finish the first half of the season with that performance.  [There are] definitely some things to reflect on and learn from as we prepare for the next semester".  She went on to boast about how proud she is of her team, and she feels "like we've made a lot of progress since our September start".

That ends the first half of the season for the women's basketball team as they turn their focus towards exam season and the holidays.  They will continue to practice and work on their game as they look ahead to next term's schedule.  Their first game of the winter term will be on Friday, January 9th versus the Humber Hawks at the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre in Welland.  Tipoff is scheduled for 6pm.
