The Niagara Knights women's basketball program (4-5, 5th OCAA West) kicked off the New Year with a pair of exhibition games on January 2nd and 3rd against OCAA East Division opponents at Humber College in Toronto.
The first game of the weekend saw Niagara defeat the OCAA's #2 ranked Algonquin Thunder (6-1, 1st OCAA East) 64-46. Alyssa McCabe (Niagara Falls) led the way offensively with 22 points, while Kaitlyn McPherson (Welland) added 13 points of her own.
The following day the Knights suffered a 49-39 loss at the hands of the St. Lawrence Vikings. Despite the loss, the team had a strong defensive showing, forcing 30 turnovers in the contest. Kaitlyn McPherson paced the Knights offensively with 10 points.
The second half of the OCAA regular season kicks off this Friday as the Knights travel to Redeemer on January 8th to take on the Royals (4-5, 6th OCAA West), with tip-off set for 6:00 pm. Niagara will kick off the second half home schedule Saturday, January 16th when the Sheridan Bruins (2-7, 9th OCAA West) visit the Welland Campus Athletic Centre at 6:00 pm.
