WELLAND, ON: The Niagara Knights (2-1) fall short to the Sheridan Bruins 92-88. This was a close battle throughout the game, with the score being 41-37 at the halfway mark. Raheem Dennis (#0), Skylar Samuel (#1), and Riley Bleich (#34) led Niagara in scoring with 15, 16 and 17 points respectively. Raheem and Riley were also 2 of 3 players on the Knights to grab ten or more rebounds, with Bach Yiech (#5) being the third.
The Bruins were led by Travis Clouden (#42), Tyler Chisolm (#10) and Aljen Biliran (#6) coming off the bench. Travis had 13 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals/ Tyler had 15 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 1 block. Aljen had 19 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 5 steals.
Sheridan shot 44.2% from the field but only 20% from behind the ark. On the other hand, Niagara shot only 40.8% from the field, but they shot 33.3% from behind the ark. Sheridan's bench was over twice as efficient as Niagara's, scoring 38 points compared to Niagara's 18. The lead changed 4 times during the game, and Sheridan's largest lead came halfway through the 2nd quarter when they were up by 17. Niagara's largest lead was 11 points late in the 3rd.
Both teams showcased their ability to score the basketball even while facing a deficit. This was a very close game, and the outcome was uncertain until the final 10 seconds of play. Niagara was forced to intentionally foul to get back the ball, but Sheridan was able to hit free throws, extending their lead to 4 and securing their victory over the Knights. The Sheridan Bruins are now 2-2 on the season, while the Niagara Knights fall to 1-2.
The Knights will travel to the Humber Athletic Centre on Sunday, November 10th to take on the Humber Hawks in their second meeting of the season. Tipoff is scheduled for 3pm, immediately following the women's game.
